Policing students at Kingston College have conducted speed monitoring tests using speed guns to gather real-time data on vehicle speeds in the North Kingston area. The project aims to address speeding and reduce accidents along Richmond Road in Kingston through a collaborative effort between Kingston Council and our first year Policing students.
Following the speed monitoring tests, the students then collected and analysed the data, providing an evidence-based report on speeding trends in the area.
The findings will be presented to Kingston Council at the Guildhall, highlighting the extent of the issue and offering insights for potential road safety interventions. This campaign seeks to raise awareness, influence local policy, and improve road safety for the community.
Lecturer in Public Services, Pascale Samy, commented: “It has been a great hands-on learning experience, and we gained a better understanding of how the speed guns devices work. The students are looking forward to discussing the data we collected and how effective speed checks could be in these spots to help improve safety on Richmond Road.”
