Why you chose to study a BTEC and why you chose Kingston College?
I personally chose to opt for a BTEC course because I believe it to be more practical - the additional coursework gives you an insight into things like report writing, collaborative projects, and many more aspects which apply to the real world - something which is not covered by sitting exam after exam. I believe this is simply reflective of one's ability to retain information, not a true indicator of their potential.
It also offers more flexibility in the sense that most BTEC courses are spread over 3/4 days of the week, as opposed to 5 in sixth form. This enabled me to utilize my time effectively and go into the world of work, as well as develop hobbies and traits which are also crucial towards building long term success.
In all honestly, I chose Kingston College so I could be with my girlfriend and close friends from school, but I had always heard good things about the College and my personal experience is evidence I made the right choice!
Your plans after you complete your course?
My plans after I complete the BTEC in Business are to go onto higher education where I have secured an offer at the University of Exeter to study BSc Finance: Investment Banking. A field which I'm familiar with and I aim to dive into the world of finance with aspirations to make a real, positive impact. I will harbour the skills I gained throughout my time at Kingston College and I'm sure those will be useful in helping me throughout my 4 years at university, as well as the path I choose after that too.
Favourite part of your course?
The group work and projects as part of my Business BTEC have been particularly enjoyable (Managing an event, Team building in business). Not only as they are fun to do and interactive with all members of the class, but they also provide practical benefits into what it may be like doing these things "for real".
Any advice to those thinking about applying for your course?
Go for it! Understand that whatever you choose to do can likely be the foundations for your higher education and then your career following that, so have a good think about both where you can excel, but also what interests you and what you see yourself doing in the future. Remember that you can always change your mind later, but the more doors opened, the better.
Any amazing tutors or met great new friends?
All of the teachers I've had have been amazing - not only in their teaching but also the support and feedback they offer for continuous self-improvement. I've had the privilege of having two great tutors both years, most notably Rohan for my final year.
