Following a successful launch in May, Hairdressing & Barbering students at Kingston College have now returned after the summer break and resumed their volunteer initiative at Queen Mary Hall in Cambridge Gardens, Kingston. The project, which offers free haircuts to local residents, continues to thrive and make a meaningful impact in the community.
Each month, groups of students provide haircuts to approximately 40 clients in a welcoming and supportive environment. The initiative not only allows students to give back to the community but also offers invaluable hands-on experience. By interacting with a diverse range of people, students are gaining confidence, refining their technical skills and building rapport with clients - all while contributing to their work experience hours.
Team Leader Jenny Wiltshire shared her continued enthusiasm for the project:
“The initiative has been well-received by the local community, with students praised for their professionalism and kindness. We’re delighted to see them return with the same energy and commitment. This valuable work experience continues on the first Friday of every month, and the students are eager to be part of something that has a real and positive impact.”
Kingston College remains committed to maintaining this partnership and integrating community outreach into its vocational training. The initiative is a shining example of how education and service can come together to benefit both students and the wider community.
