On Friday 2nd May, a group of four Level 2 Hairdressing & Barbering students at Kingston College participated in a volunteer initiative at Queen Mary Hall in Cambridge Gardens, Kingston. This event was aimed at giving back to the community by offering free haircuts to local residents, and it was a resounding success.
The team consisted of three Level 2 Hairdressing students - Brogan, Luciana and Katie - and one Level 2 Barbering student, Meehae. Together, they provided haircuts to approximately 28 clients throughout the day. Each student had the opportunity to put their skills to work, interacting with members of the public in a welcoming and supportive environment.
The event was not only an opportunity for the students to give back to the community but also a valuable learning experience. They gained confidence, honed their professional skills and interacted with a diverse range of people, which also greatly contributed to their work experience hours. These interactions provided a real-world context for their training, helping them build rapport with clients while improving their technical abilities.
The initiative was well-received by the local community with the students being praised for their professionalism and kindness. As a result of this positive feedback, we are excited to announce that this initiative will continue on the first Friday of every month. The students are eager to return, knowing that their work is having a tangible impact on their local community.
We look forward to maintaining this partnership and continuing to offer our services to those who may benefit from a free haircut while simultaneously supporting our students’ professional development. This volunteer effort is just the beginning, and we are committed to making it a regular part of our community outreach.
