Hairdressing & Barbering students at Kingston College are participating in a volunteer initiative at Queen Mary Hall in Cambridge Gardens, Kingston. The project aims to give back to the community by offering free haircuts to local residents, and it is proving a resounding success.

The groups of students are providing haircuts to approximately 40 clients throughout the day! Each of the students have the opportunity to put their skills to work, interacting with members of the public in a welcoming and supportive environment.

The initiative is not only an opportunity for the students to give back to the community but also a valuable learning experience. The are gaining confidence, honing their professional skills and interacting with a diverse range of people, which also greatly contributes to their work experience hours. These interactions are providing a real-world context for their training, helping them build rapport with clients while improving their technical abilities.

Team Leader, Jenny Wiltshire, commented: "The initiative has been well-received by the local community with the students being praised for their professionalism and kindness. This valuable work experience will continue on the first Friday of every month. The students are thoroughly enjoying the experience and are eager to return knowing that their work is having a tangible impact on their local community.

"We look forward to maintaining this partnership and continuing to offer our services to those who may benefit from a free haircut while simultaneously supporting our students’ professional development. This volunteer effort is just the beginning, and we are committed to making it a regular part of our community outreach."
