Nadine Gentle gained Triple Distinction*, equivalent to 3 A* at A Level, on our Level 3 Extended Diploma in Public/Protective Services and she now has her sights set on joining the Police. Nadine says: “I have really enjoyed my time at Kingston College; when I first started I didn’t know anyone but I soon made lots of new friends.
“Throughout the course we have had lots of informative talks from a range of protective service personnel including the Army, Police, Fire Service and Border Force. These talks were engaging and helped me learn more about the different career paths within the different services. When I started the course I was certain I wanted to join the Police but through doing this course I have learnt more about the other services and it has opened up my options. All of my tutors have been very supportive and friendly and some of them were previous serving Police Officers which was really helpful.
“During the course we completed a number of interesting units which will help us in our future careers however, a few of my favourites were the Police Powers unit, Skills for Outdoor Activities unit and Fitness unit. In the Police Powers unit we learnt about the legal powers of the Police and people’s rights while held in custody. In the skills for outdoor activities unit we went to Bushy Park and completed an orienteering task and Richmond Park where we went mountain biking. This was a great opportunity for us to work in teams and get to know each other better whilst also learning new skills. “In the fitness unit I developed a fitness plan to improve my running ability, and as a class we completed our plans weekly in the college gym. We also went on a trip to the Houses of Parliament as one of our exam units related to the Government and Protective Services. This was an enjoyable day out and we learnt a lot.”
