Safeguarding

BTEC Level 3 3D Design students at Kingston College have been working with Kingston Churches Action on Homelessness (KCAH) to produce planters for the reception area of their building, planters for their outside area, as well as making and selling plant pots. The students managed to raise £230 for the charity from their sales.

The students had a fantastic experience saying: “It was a great opportunity to be briefed by the charity to then create a useful product for them to actually use. It was nice to have work experience that started off as a link to a project brief first, and then to create something to help their charity and to raise money for them.”

“I overheard a homeless man who was at the charity whilst we were setting up the planters we had made, say that it was great having the younger generation at the charity, helping the charity, to help him.”

On raising money for the KCAH charity they said: “Designing pots while working together as a team creates a sense of connection and collaboration, allowing us to share ideas and learn from one another.”

“Talking to new people in the process opens the door to meaningful conversations where we hear their stories and understand their needs.”

“The most rewarding part was seeing the smiles on their faces when they received a pot that adds beauty or practicality to their lives.”

“It’s incredible to witness how something as simple as a pot can bring joy, inspire creativity and even make a real difference in someone’s everyday life.”
