“My journey at Kingston College began in 2022 with the Level 3 Diploma in Motor Vehicle Engineering. Initially, I had a vision of attending university, but as I progressed through this course I realised that I needed UCAS points which the course did not provide. Consequently, in 2023 I enrolled on the Level 3 Access to Engineering. Towards the end of my Access course, and after receiving offers from my preferred universities through UCAS, my tutor Suresh introduced me to my current Apprenticeship programme. Looking back, it's undoubtedly one of the best decisions I've made.
“As a child, I aspired to become a senior engineer in the automotive field and possibly own a dealership. However, as I've grown and the Apprenticeship opportunity arose, I’ve found fulfilment in my current role as a Field Service Engineer Apprentice at Bayer, and I hope to continue developing as a full-time skilled field service engineer at Bayer.
“Balancing work with education has been a key aspect of my Apprenticeship. It may seem challenging, but with supportive employers it becomes more manageable.
Throughout my academic journey, I've encountered remarkable and encouraging tutors. For my Level 3 Motor Vehicle course, Paul Warnett and Des Rodney were incredibly helpful, guiding me to my university goals and even suggesting the Access course.
“During the Access to Engineering all my tutors were outstanding, but my personal favourites were Julijana Gavrilova, who was like a mother figure to us, always motivating everyone to excel, and Dr. Suresh Sreedharan, who was excellent in both knowledge and support.
“While I had previously lacked close friendships, during the Access course I made two amazing life friends, Elai and Misreya. We studied together, supported one another and achieved Distinctions on the course.“On the current course, HNC Mechanical Engineering, I’ve found all the tutors supportive and friendly.
“At this stage of my life, I am truly grateful to my parents for the excellent parenting and the amazing tutors for supporting me through everything. To the new cohort, I would say that if you have a dream and believe in god’s plan and your actions, pursue it wholeheartedly. No one can stop you from achieving your goals.”
