Foundation Learning students have explored many ways into progression by participating in internal and external work experience and voluntary enterprises with the College.
Many of our learners have gained sustainable skills and qualities that they can use across curriculum and general vocation to be able to reach their full potential by learning new experiences throughout the year.
Our work experience sessions cover a number of areas.
Green Skills: exploring the environment we live in, contributing to up cycling our ‘Go Green’ Garden Area, promoting positive changes for our environment and creating a eco learning habitat.
Our learners have engaged in;
- Collecting recycled items that then go on to be reused and designed to improve how we learn.
- Making a vegetable, herb and flower patch to sell in our College Shop.
- Working with the Carshalton in Bloom business to create planters.
Development Skills: we have been working in partnership with the Spear Programme to encourage and motive our learners to gain the necessary skills to have in the employment workforce which is vital to develop their skills and confidence in the workplace.
Providing a workshop so that learners can learn their strengths and weaknesses with the barriers that come with looking for work such as;
- Preparing students for interviews
- Create CVs, write and complete job applications
- Building confidence and self-esteem
- Assessing areas of career.
Work Skills: working in our Canteens to promote good food handling, hygiene, health and safety and basic food allergies and catering.
- Serving students and College staff
- Restocking and assisting with food stock take
- Handling inventory
- Maintaining health and safety
- Practicing effective verbal and written communication.
