Rubana Qadeer started at Merton College in 2017, when she enrolled on an ESOL English Beginner Entry Level 2 course.
Rubana says: "The ESOL course improved my reading, writing, speaking and listening skills and I went on to study ILP Level 2 and then Functional Skills Level 2 with Merton Adult Education. The courses helped me to build confidence, make friends from all around the world and gain knowledge about different countries, customs, and languages. They also taught me how to put a CV together and prepare for a job interview.
In 2020, after completing the Functional Skills Course, I took the next step and progressed to pre-GCSE English. This was during the Covid 19 pandemic when everyone was feeling isolated, but Merton College really helped me by starting online studies. Although this was challenging for me, our tutors taught us very well and I passed my GCSE English with Grade 5.
I passed all of my exams because of the highly qualified teachers who are friendly and willing to help students reach their goals. They helped me every step of the way, guiding me in the right direction. I am now enrolled on the Professional Cookery NVQ Level 2 course, which I hope will allow me to start a professional career in Catering & Hospitality."
