The annual British Violin Makers Association Makers Day took place last month, an event which brings together musicians and violin makers for a celebration of instruments. We run Musical Instrument Making courses for adults at Merton College and many of our students exhibit their instruments there every year.
This year, learner Eliot James had his viola selected from over 200 instruments to be played by the Kreutzer Quartet, an international world-renowned string quartet. Eliot, who had spent over a year making this instrument and only finished it the week before, was delighted to have been selected. He has now developed his skills further by moving on to making a cello.
Well done Eliot!
