Merton College hosted its annual Employability Week from 2-6 December, which provided students with an exciting and varied schedule of employer presentations and workshops.

Throughout the week, students from across the College learned more about career opportunities in different sectors and the value of work experience. It kicked off with an interactive STEM workshop from Conecttr, on behalf of National Grid. Around 70 Level 1 and 3 Engineering students particpacted and were given an insight into careers with National Grid and the different types of Apprenticeships available. They took part in a Dragons Den type of event entitled 'Securing a Net Zero Future' and also heard from former Merton College student Divine Kuteesa, who is now employed by National Grid following a successful 20-day work placement with them.

Our Level 1 and 2 Health & Social Care students took part in a talk from employer Skills For Care. It focussed on the various types of roles, as well as emerging professional roles, in the Care sector, learning and development opportunities and career progression.

Senior AI Business Consultant Amba Lanning, from Mindible, gave an AI presentation to our Level 3 IT and Computing students. The talk outlined exactly what AI is and engaged the students in a task to create illustrations in Canva and add AI to them.

Alstom Group's HR Representative Nancy Armstrong delivered a 'Be The Best You Can Be' informative workshop to Level 2 Engineering students. Students were given interview tips and techniques, advised on how to write an impressive CV and a general overview on what employers are looking for when interviewing candidates for professional roles. Alstom's Rob Greenbrook was also on hand to answer questions about trains, in particular the Northern Line.

We'd like to thank our students for participating so enthusiastically in Employability Week, our fantastic employer partners for their incredible support and the Employability Team for making this event a resounding success!
