Access to HE and Foundation Art and Design learners at Kingston College developed and refined some excellent outcomes for their design pathways and put together a fabulous interim show in our Penny School Gallery!
With a wide range of progression pathways, the variety of works gave a striking impact, from complex garments made from waste denims to illustrated hand-bound books reworking Grimm’s Fairy Tales, animations bringing everyday objects to life and large-scale, experimental bridge models. Learners “Transformed Ordinary to Extraordinary” in new and inventive ways. Initial inspiration taken from their Tim Burton visit at the Design Museum sparked many unique and highly creative ways of solving design challenges.
Emily Limna, Course Leader, said: “Within their interim show learners held group critiques, discussions and presentations. This reflection, alongside contextual exploration at the V&A and Saatchi Gallery, led to individual proposal presentations for their final major project. The confidence gained from displaying final works and shaping new and individual plans resonated throughout the period of this interim show. Documenting their pathway works in our gallery context has also been a powerful addition to university progression portfolios.
“We are truly grateful for all the support we have had to make this show happen and are excited to see the next creative steps our Access to HE and Foundation Art and Design learners will take. They are all currently busy working towards their final exhibition works and looking forward to their Creative Industries Centre Summer show in June!”
