BTEC Level 3 Health & Social Care students at Kingston College had a fantastic time visiting The Anaesthesia Heritage Centre in Portland Place, London, recently. It was a wonderful opportunity to learn about the fascinating history of anaesthesia, resuscitation, and pain relief. They explored the incredible journey of anaesthesia, starting from its very first public demonstration in 1846 right up to the skilled anaesthetists who work today, often in challenging situations like wars and terrorist attacks.

Our Level 2 Health & Social Care students have also been making meaningful connections with the elderly residents at Deer Park View Care Centre in Teddington as part of their weekly work experience. During their recent visits, they had a great time helping the residents with some fun baking and craft sessions!

Tutor Pheonah Sentamu said: “These visits are such a wonderful opportunity for our Level 2 students to engage with the older generations at Deer Park View Care Centre, sharing their positive vibes and enthusiasm. It allows students to gain a much deeper understanding of the concepts covered in class and as a result they approach their work with greater maturity and insight.

“The trip to the Anaesthesia Heritage Centre was perfectly timed as Level 3 students’ most recent assignment related to their unit on Public Health. As part of this visit, we also explored the John Snow Pump on Broadwick Street in Soho. Dr John Snow’s ground breaking discovery in 1854, that contaminated water was the source of a cholera outbreak in London, is widely recognized as a major milestone in public health and epidemiology.”
