BTEC Level 3 Photography students were proud to exhibit their Mixed Media work during an exhibition held in the Creative Industries Centre’s Penny School Gallery which ran from Thursday 23 January to Tuesday 4 February 2025.

As part of their progression module, students were asked to highlight gaps in their practice, one of which was more experimental work with photography as the starting point rather than the final outcome.

They went through a series of workshops exploring Mixed Media processes and advanced darkroom techniques honing experimental skills in screen-printing, foiling, collage, embroidery, overpainted photographs, liquid emulsion/cyanolumen and printing and making their own transparencies for contact printing.

The students then had to reflect on their experiments and develop a mini body of work / series using one or more techniques learnt for both their websites and the interim show.

Students installed work as practice for the annual end of year Summer Show and used the Private View as a practice run for university interviews, where they have to present their work.
