Vinicius has studied Adult ESOL at Merton College.
Vinicius is from Brazil and has a background in IT and computing, When he arrived in London over three years ago, he struggled to communicate in English. This meant that he was unable to find work as an IT professional and had to look for employment in roles where English was not a requirement.
He says: "As time went on, my English did improve but it was still insufficient for interviews in IT companies. This frustrated me more and more each day, so I made the decision to learn English at Merton College. As a result, my English improved a lot and I managed to get a job interview within six months.
There were three steps to the interview - to write a 300 word essay, a specific IT knowledge exam and an interview. I was successful and they offered me the job! I have a great social life now and have more desire to continue to improve my English. My life has completely changed, thank you to all Merton College staff and especially to my ESOL tutor Noelle!"
