Students from Merton College’s Foundation Learning Department held a Yellow and Blue Day fundraising event last week in aid of Ukrainian refugees.
Staff and students at the College were encouraged to wear yellow and blue clothing on the day and make a £1 donation in support. In addition to this, the Foundation Learning students completed a sponsored walk to raise funds.
As well as raising money, there was also a stall dedicated to collecting donations such as clothing and blankets. Some of the students even prepared an authentic Ukrainian meal for the event.
At the end of the day, the group of students enjoyed a BBQ in the wooded area at Farm Pavilion Grounds.
We are very proud of the hard work they have all put in, raising a total of over £750!
Peter Mayhew-Smith, Group Principal of STCG, said: “Wonderful to see our students engaging with this very important cause and actively making a difference to a tough situation. They should be very proud of their efforts and we support all they’re doing whole-heartedly!”
Steve Dixon, Head of Inclusion said:“The students, supported by a fantastic team staff have worked tirelessly to raise money in support of the innocent people tired up in this desperate conflict. A real credit to the College.”
