Stefani Pereira new website

Stefani Pereira is a student at Merton College, currently studying Level 2 Certificate in Hairdressing. Read about Stefani's experience as a student and what she loves about her course.

Why did you choose to study at Merton College?
I chose to study at Merton because as soon as I entered the college I felt very welcomed by friendly and helpful staff. I have dyslexia so struggle with reading and writing, for me it was the only college I had attended that didn’t make me feel negative about my grades - I immediately knew this was the place I wanted to study at. There is a big difference studying at a college to being at school. My tutors treat me as an adult and it makes the teacher-student relationship very pleasant.

What is your favourite part of the course?
My favourite part of the course is practical work, I love trying new things and I learn better with a Kinaesthetic style learning.

Have you enjoyed any opportunities that Merton offer?
I have benefitted from a few opportunities that Merton College has to offer, one being work placements. My tutor helped me find a placement near to the college and my home which I loved and turned into a part time job for me.

What are your favourite memories of the course?
My greatest memory was in Level 1 was when we had to do a story board and make it come to life. I really enjoyed putting all my ideas together such as the makeup, hair and dressing my model up.

What did you enjoy about studying at Merton?
Merton College really takes the time to provide extra learning for students with learning difficulties and as a result my grades in Maths and English have improved massively and I feel more confident to answer questions and get involved in the lessons. I am looking to carry on my course and hopefully progress to Level 3. I would also like to do a course in Barbering to expand my knowledge and cater to everyone.

Do you have any advice to future students?
I would advise to join Merton College. Attendance is really important. I would also say not to worry about what other students are doing within lessons, focus on your on success.
