South Thames Colleges Group (STCG) is proud to announce that it is becoming a White Ribbon accredited organisation. STCG is committed to developing a culture where everyone feels safe, valued and respected at work and beyond.

As part of this work, the Group supports the ‘We Speak Up’ campaign, which encourages men to challenge harmful behaviours, whether it is calling out a sexist joke, stepping in when something is not right or leading by example. These everyday actions, both in and out of the workplace, set the tone for lasting change.

STCG encourages everyone to speak up for change, as even the smallest of every day actions help make a difference. Every time something that does not feel right is ignored, a chance is missed to set a better example. David Williamson, Director of Student Services, said: “We are working in this area in lots of ways including launching a new sexual harassment survey for students to ensure we are finding out how best to address this societal issue with them.

“The White Ribbon accreditation quality mark is not just about raising awareness – it is about taking action. We know that there are already lots of men speaking up and showing that there is no place for sexism in our communities, streets or workplaces. We want even more men and students to join in. White Ribbon UK works to end male violence against women and girls by addressing the root causes.”

Holly Abdelghafar, Head of Student Services, Kingston College, said: “We have a vibrant student community and are excited to involve our students and staff in future campaigns, tutorial plans and ambassador/champion opportunities as part of this work.”

At South Thames Colleges Group, we are proud to be part of this work and to speak up.
