Meet Kingston College BTEC Esports student, Jodie Harris, who has gained a fantastic Triple Distinction*, equivalent to 3 A* at A Level. She says: “I chose to study at Kingston College because I didn't have a great High School experience, and felt that the college environment would suit me better! (It did!) I feel I have met so many lifelong friends. College life has given me the maturity that I had been searching for since high school. It gave me tools that enabled me to progress as a young adult, and now that I am an older young adult, it has really helped me to become who I am today.

“Many new students come onto the Esports course thinking it's going to be gaming, gaming, gaming, but this isn't the case! There are still gaming aspects, and fun things (Esports Coaching, Live Streaming, Esports Events!), but the focus is mainly on learning new skills and developing those skills. Esports is a very hands-on subject, and is not just centred around physical gaming. My advice for new students looking to study Esports is to get the work done on time! Then play your video games!

“Our Esports Event was personally my favourite opportunity that I had. The unit forced my class to work together and now having run the event, we have formed really good friendships - and the event itself was a huge success, and we loved it.

“My plans for after college are to semi-return but not as a student. I run two businesses, one of which specialises in Dance Competitions, and I have plans to team up with the College’s Dance Department to provide work experience placements to students. I plan on taking this business full time, and it is looking positive for the future. I am really glad to be working with the college, and I really look forward to it!”
