South Thames College foundation learner has been featured in July edition of GQ magazine; Josh was asked to explain how a group he is part of called ‘Bike Life’ helped change his life for the better. Bike Life is a worldwide group that gives leaders of cities and towns the confidence, opportunity and evidence to talk about the benefits of cycling. It helps them make cycling an everyday way to travel.
Josh commented, ‘Bike Life helped me to change my life. It showed me that I can solve a problem through putting my focus into doing something I enjoy rather than turning to violence. I found that I love bikes and enjoy learning about the mechanical side of things, and I now put all my spare time and effort into this. Being part of a group of people who have similar interests to me has helped me make friends and help others. Thanks to Bike Life I am now sponsored by a brand called Collective Bikes. There is a ride out that happens every year in central London also known as city. This is when all the riders who belong to the collective get together and ride through the streets of London sending out a positive message about knife crime.
Josh's tutor Jonathan Staunton commented, 'This is Josh’s first year on the Foundation Learning course at South Thames College. Throughout his time on the course, he has been an exempler student and a positive role model for his peers. Josh has often talked about his love of bikes and his involvement in the ‘Bike Life’ group. It was fantastic to read about his experiences and to share with his classmates. We are all very proud of Josh and his continued work in such a positive movement.’
