South Thames Colleges Group is extremely proud of our BTEC students’ achievements. Our largest programme, BTEC National Extended Diploma, equivalent to three A Levels, had some incredible results with students achieving Triple Distinction*, equivalent to three A* grades at A Level.

John O'Shea, Principal at Kingston College and South Thames College, commented: “South Thames Colleges Group is extremely proud of our students’ Level 3 achievements. We have had significant increases in students over the last couple of years with over 2500 students across the Group on these programmes alone, yet we have not only maintained our incredibly high pass rates well into 90%, but we have increased our high grade profiles so now almost 65% of all students achieve the highest grades.

"With over 700 students finishing their second year and going to university or an Apprenticeship, we are absolutely delighted for them and our dedicated and highly skilled staff.”

Group Principal and CEO, Peter Mayhew-Smith, said: "At South Thames Colleges Group, we've seen another remarkable year, with student numbers rising at an unprecedented rate and the same high grade scores sustained across a huge range of qualifications and subjects. Our vocational students excelled once again, while our A Level+ students saw some fantastic grades. It's been a great year for us and we wish all our progressing students the very best for the future."

Toby Barber gained Triple Distinction* on BTEC Digital Art, Animation and Games Design and has accepted a place to study BA (Hons) Illustration at University for the Creative Arts: “I chose to study a BTEC as I found A Levels weren't specific enough, and I wanted to pursue art without other distractions, which meant having one subject rather than three suited my progression more. College life was very easy for me to get used to. The tutors are always there to help you if needed and I made some great friends who share common interests.”

BTEC Media student, Niamh Jay (pictured above), also gained Triple Distinction* and has plans to take an Apprenticeship: “I chose a BTEC as I have always preferred coursework to exams. I found exams extremely stressful and felt they didn’t allow my true skills and potential to shine - unlike coursework. I couldn’t be happier about making this decision.”
