On 7 October, four of our Sports students who have been taking part in the Premier League Inspires Programme, spoke with Crystal Palace football player Nathan Ferguson.
This is part of their `No Room For Racism' initiative, where they are running a series of Youth Voices films. The films involve young people in the Premier League community and academy programmes chatting with first-team players about discrimination, equality and allyship.
Nathan Ferguson and his father, Christopher, a teacher, spoke with our students about their experiences of racism and the best ways of dealing with it.
Premier League Inspires is an education programme, newly introduced in 2019, developed by the Premier League and professional football clubs. The programme is aimed at young people aged between 11-25 and brings together learnings from previous PL programmes such as PL Enterprise, PL Works as well as the Prince's Trust Achieve course.
All students from across our School of Creative & Commercial Industries have been taking part in the Premier League Inspires or NCS (National Citizen Service) initiatives as part of their induction programmes at Carshalton College. We have been working alongside Palace for Life who have been delivering these programmes.
As a college we understand that the past 2 years of education have been a struggle for learners so we wanted to add extra opportunities into their study programmes to help with confidence and resilience whilst also discussing important issues such as racism.
Carshalton College are proud to be working with Crystal Palace Football club, Palace for Life and the Premier League in tackling No Room For Racism initiative.
