Second year Travel & Tourism students have enjoyed overseas placements through the Turing scheme (formerly the Erasmus scheme) in Istanbul and Rome. The students worked in 4* and 5* hotels in departments such as Marketing, HR, Front of House and in Sales & Marketing.
Prior to the trip the students attended both a preparation and pre-departure meeting. During the preparation meeting, they gathered information relating to their travel and accommodation needs as well as arranging any additional funding required for passports, visas, clothing or other applicable items. Documents relating to their course, for example learning agreements, were also submitted. They were also involved in the booking of flights and accommodation.
Lecturer, Elizabeth Smith, said: “It was a fantastic opportunity for these students who will benefit from this unique experience in the early stage of their careers before going into employment or to university.”
