BTEC Level 2 Creative Media student, Mia-Grace Eastop, is continuing her studies at Kingston College on BTEC Level 3 Photography:
Why did you choose to study a BTEC and why did you choose Kingston College?
The reason I chose to do a BTEC is because you can just focus on one course, and I find it much easier to do that because you don't have to be worried about trying to juggle three courses at the same time. Another reason why I chose to do BTEC is because it is all coursework and there are no exams to do which I find better because I don't do well in exams.
Favourite part of your course?
My favorite part of my course is doing the editing of the videos or photos we take, I also like doing the animation. I really enjoy the whole process of making a short film, graphic design, or an animation because I find after all the work is done, I love watching or looking at what I have made.
Is College life what you expected? Have there been any surprises?
College life is not what I expected at all, I thought it was going to be like high school, but it is completely different. At college you are very much in charge of your work and making sure you get it done and I like that a lot. I like being independent and getting to make my own decisions when it comes to how creative I want it to be.
Any advice to those thinking about applying for your course?
For anyone who wants to apply to my course I would say to be very prepared with your work and try not to fall behind because you will have a lot of work to do but you do get enough time to do it, just don't be lazy. You will also work with people from your class even if you don't know them you might have to work on a project with them so be prepared for that.
Any opportunities you’ve enjoyed here that you particularly loved?
I have really enjoyed being able to use cameras and lights from the college to do projects with. It is amazing getting to experience what using a real camera feels like and setting up the lights and going through the process of filming something.
Any amazing tutors or met great new friends?
One of the best parts of going to Kingston College is the teachers and tutors, they are so well educated in what they do, they can answer any question you ask them, and they really do care about their students and they want everyone they teach to pass.
