Divine Kuteesa, a student studying Level 3 Engineering at Merton, has secured a prestigious employment position with National Grid to start in September, following the completion of her qualification.

Last year, Divine attended an Industry work placement with National Grid contractor Hochtief Murphy at the London Power Tunnels Project in New Cross, organised by our Employability team. She was one of only five students from our Level 3 Year 1 Engineering course who were selected for the placement. During the placement, the students gained a good understanding of mechanical engineering and health and safety practices.

Hotchtief Murphy managers were very impressed with Divine, expressing that she was a very employable young person. Once our students had completed their placement, they were given an opportunity to sign up to National Grid Employment Opportunities/Apprenticeships. Both National Grid and Hochtief Murphy then expressed their interest in employing Divine.

Divine accepted an offer of employment from National Grid, working on-site at London Power Tunnels as a student engineer for six months. She will then go on to National Grid’s construction development programme (Level 6 qualification) to become a project manager.

This is a fantastic example of how a work placement can lead to bigger and better things. Divine thoroughly deserves this opportunity and we wish her a bright future.
