Kingston College is extremely proud of our BTEC students’ achievements. Our largest programme, BTEC National Extended Diploma, equivalent to three A Levels, had incredible results with 50% of students achieving at least three Distinctions and above, equivalent to three A grades at A Level. 59 students achieved Triple Distinction, equivalent to 3 A* grades at A Level. Over 600 students are progressing to university or an Apprenticeship, another outstanding achievement.

Principal, John O'Shea, commented: “We have had significant increases in students over the last couple of years with over 1700 students on Level 3 programmes alone, yet we have maintained our pass rates well into the 90%s and increased our high grade profiles, so now almost 70% of all students achieve the highest grades. Our largest programme, BTEC National Extended Diploma, equivalent to three A Levels, had incredible results with 50% of students achieving at least three Distinctions and above, equivalent to three As at A Level.

"With over 600 students finishing their second year and going to university or an apprenticeship, I am absolutely delighted for them and our dedicated and highly skilled staff.”

Group Principal and CEO, Peter Mayhew-Smith, said: "At South Thames Colleges Group, we've seen another remarkable year, with student numbers rising at an unprecedented rate and the same high grade scores sustained across a huge range of qualifications and subjects. Our vocational students excelled once again, while our A Level+ students saw some fantastic grades. It's been a great year for us and we wish all our progressing students the very best for the future."

BTEC Travel and Tourism student, Virag Barnai (pictured above), gained Triple Distinction* and has accepted a place at University of Surrey to study BSc (Hons) International Hospitality and Tourism Management: “I chose to study a BTEC as I believe it was more suited for me as it is very different from the school structure of exclusively exam-based grading. A BTEC also allowed more freedom to be able to manage my own time and learning. College life was even better than I expected, I love the freedom that college gives you and the different ways of learning it offers.”

BTEC Art and Design student, Amelie-Rose Henn, also gained Triple Distinction*: “I chose to study Art and Design at Kingston College because of the learning style, it is much more practical and coursework based; great for showing your true skills over time instead of singular exams. I have really enjoyed being here and will miss it a lot. It is a great friendly environment, my tutors have been especially supportive. I have gained confidence since starting and been inspired to take on big design projects I wouldn’t have imagined a few years ago.” Amelie-Rose has accepted a place to study BA(Hons) Fine Art and Art History at Kingston University.
