Press Release from UAL Awarding Body and Carshalton College

Student from Carshalton College selected by UAL Awarding Body to exhibit their work at Origins Creatives 2024 in London this July. This is the second year in a row that an Art student from Carshalton College has won this prestigious accolade.

Emily Mason has been selected to exhibit their work at Origins Creatives, taking place at the Mall Galleries in July. Emily’s submission, titled Golden Lottie, influenced by artists such as Klimt, caught the attention of UAL Awarding Body’s curator, Charlie Levine, amongst over 500 submissions.

Emily said the following about her piece;

“I believe it sits well in the Art Nouveau style but at the same time has a personal link to me as an artist, as the model for my portrait is my cousin Lottie and the celestial style elements within the background are inspired by my interest in the stars and astronomy. I wanted to build up the decorative surface of the painting using mixed media and gold leaf to enhance and empower the figure’:

Annette Vigurs, the Course Leader for Art and Design at Carshalton College said the following about Emily’s work;

‘Emily’s painting ’Golden Lottie’ selected for this prestigious exhibition in London encapsulates her outstanding ability to create highly decorative inspirational pieces. She has a thoughtful and reflective approach to observing her subject matter which she deftly and sympathetically translates into her work in an innovative way. This particular piece is just one example of her inventive creative ability and impressive eye for detail’.
