BTEC Level 2 Extended Certificate in Music Industry Skills

This course develops your skills in music production and composition, helping you grow as a creative musician and preparing you for more advanced study. You'll build your technical abilities, explore different approaches to creating music, and develop your understanding of the wider music industry.

  • Entry Requirements


    We will invite you to a Meet the Tutor event where you will receive information, advice, and guidance about the course you have applied for. This will be an opportunity for you to gain valuable information about the course and give you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have.

    You will provide a copy of your last school report and / or a reference from an employer or relevant professional other this will include attendance. This is to ensure we can support you to be able to achieve well on the course. Applicants with 85% or below attendance will have been deemed not to have met this criteria. All applicants are given an opportunity to discuss any evidence based mitigating circumstances that may have affected the reference / school report.

    4 x GCSE's at D/3 or above, or a Level 1 Diploma in a relevant subject plus GCSE grade D/3 or above in English Language and Maths

    An audition or recorded example of a performance or a piece of original music you have created to demonstrate that you have the appropriate level of skill required to succeed on the course. Your recorded music piece, should be an exported MP3 or WAV file, so it can easily be played to the tutor. We love to see your creativity!

    Your GCSE profile must include either maths and / or English , or a Functional Skills qualification in maths and / or English.

  • Course Content


    You will work on original and remix projects, create and shape your ideas using Logic Pro, and strengthen your professional habits — from planning and reflecting on your work to setting realistic career goals

    You will be learning in acoustically treated mixing suites and two fully equipped recording studios with Audient consoles, as well as dedicated Apple Mac suites and the ACT Theatre. A full range of professional microphones, instruments, and studio equipment will be at your fingertips. Core software includes Logic Pro and Pro Tools.

  • Progression Next Steps


    Most learners progress to our Level 3 courses in Tech or Performance, and from there onto a wide range of respected universities and specialist music schools.

    There are lots of opportunities available to you to progress across the South Thames Colleges Group and into the world beyond education.
