Key Facts

L3 - Diploma in Gym Instructing and Personal Training (NCFE)

This Level 3 qualification is designed for those wishing to work within a gym environment, private health clubs, cruise ships or leisure centres. This qualification is recognised by the UK Register of Exercise Professionals and is a prerequisite to all UK Personal Training courses. This qualification will enable you to set up and teach your own group exercise classes.

  • Entry Requirements


    We will invite you to a Meet the Tutor event where you will receive information, advice, and guidance about the course you have applied for. This will be an opportunity for you to gain valuable information about the course and give you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have.

    4 x GCSE's at grade 4 or above to include either Maths or English.

    You will provide a copy of your last school report and/or a reference from an employer or relevant professional other to include attendance. This is to ensure we can support to be able to achieve well on the course. Applicants with 85% or below attendance will have been deemed not to have met this criteria. All applicants are given an opportunity to discuss any evidence based mitigating circumstances that may have affected the reference/school report.

  • Progression Next Steps


    Upon successful completion of the Level 3 qualification, learners will be able to progress onto another Level 3 course or gain employment in the industry (if you are aged 18).

    There are lots of opportunities available to you to progress across the South Thames Colleges Group and into the world beyond education.

  • Additional Information


    Students will be challenged throughout the course by additional work experience that could include instructing adults with special needs and the elderly as well as showcasing instruction skills at employability conferences.

  • Course Structure


    The course will be delivered over one year with at least 3 – 4 days per week in college with at least 1 to 2 days for independent study/work experience.
