Level 3 Certificate in Barbering (16-18 years)

In 2020 there was a rise in the number of independent businesses on the high street and Barbers is one of the three top rated retail categories showing the highest growth. At the end of 2020, there was an increase of 800 new barber shops.

This course aims to provide learners with a specialised range of up to date Barbering techniques. Level 3 is ideal if you have a wide range of hairdressing or barbering experience for a minimum of 12 months, and you wish to develop your skills in this specialised area.

You may require this qualification for liability insurance purposes or to learn a particular technique.

  • Entry Requirements


    We will invite you to a Meet the Tutor event where you will receive information, advice, and guidance about the course you have applied for. This will be an opportunity for you to gain valuable information about the course and give you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have.

    You will provide a copy of your last school report and/or a reference from an employer or relevant professional other to include attendance. This is to ensure we can support to be able to achieve well on the course. Applicants with 85% or below attendance will have been deemed not to have met this criteria. All applicants are given an opportunity to discuss any evidence based mitigating circumstances that may have affected the reference/school report.

    You will have gained either English and/or maths at GCSE 4/C or above or L2 Functional skills English and/or maths, and a Level 2 qualification in barbering and/or hairdressing at Merit level.

    • Monitor and maintain health and safety practice in the salon
    • Hairdressing consultation support for colleagues
    • Cut men's hair to create a variety of looks
    • Cut facial hair to create a variety of looks
    • Provide shaving and face massage services
  • Progression Next Steps


    Learners can progress into employment as a barber or progress onto a Higher National Certificate in Hair & Beauty Management.

    This course runs one day a week over approximately twelve weeks with planned assessments dependent upon skill level and availability as agreed with the course tutor.
