BTEC Level 3 Advanced Manufacturing Engineering
Engineers are currently in real demand across a number of different industries - from defence and telecommunications to aviation and mechanics. If you like solving problems and thinking creatively, we offer a range of courses that will help open up a range of exciting career opportunities to you. Engineers have the biggest impact on the world over any other profession, they work to come up with solutions to global warming, machines that can help the ill and even better the transport systems we use every day. Working in this industry you can expect:
- A rapidly growing job market, with engineering employers projected to need 1.82 million people with engineering skills from 2022
- The knowledge that you are part of a growing area of the economy. This sector is forecast to generate £241billion to UK GDP by 2022, creating 157,000 new jobs in the process
- A varied job role. As an engineer your day to day will never be the same twice. You will find that one day you might be out helping in the build of something whereas the next you could be in front of a computer developing ideas and programmes. You will never be bored working as an engineer!
All our courses have been designed to meet the needs employers. They provide the opportunity for you to progress into Higher Education and/or training as well as moving straight into a job if desired, maybe via an apprenticeship.

Entry Requirements
We will invite you to a Meet the Tutor event where you will receive information, advice, and guidance about the course you have applied for. This will be an opportunity for you to gain valuable information about the course and give you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have.You will provide a copy of your last school report and / or a reference from an employer or relevant professional, this will include attendance. This is to ensure we can support you to be able to achieve well on the course. Applicants with 85% or below attendance will have been deemed not to have met this criteria. All applicants are given an opportunity to discuss any evidence- based mitigating circumstances that may have affected the reference / school report.

5 x GCSE's at grade C/4 or above including English Language and Maths. Alternatively a BTEC Level 2 in Engineering (overall Grade Merit) and GCSE grade C/4 in both English Language and Mathematics.

Course Content
The course has been designed as a full two-year programme of study, enabling learners to develop a substantial core of knowledge in the first year, including Health and Safety in the Engineering Workplace, Engineering Drawing, Fabrication, Mechanical Princliples and Electrical Technology.In year two they will develop their knowledge and study a range of topics such as Electronic Principles, Engineering Materials, Aircraft Flight Principles and Engineering Design. They will also complete a specialist engineering project.

Progression Next Steps
Many students progress in to Higher Education either university studying courses such as Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or the HNC/HND route offered by the college in Mechanical, General and Electrical Engineering.For those students not wishing to progress to Higher Education, comprehensive support is provided to help them find alternatives such as employment or apprenticeships with blue chip companies. We have very close relationships with our employers and many of our students have progressed onto apprenticeships with employers such as British Airways, CBRE, Mars Wrigley and Treadlighter (solar panels).

Course Structure
This is a two-year program in which you can choose to complete either the BTEC Diploma or the Extended Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering, based on your grades from the first year. -
Assessment Details
The BTEC in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering is assessed through internal assessments, which are set and marked by teachers, for each unit.
