L5 - Diploma for the Early Years Senior Practitioner (HTQ)
This qualification is designed to support the development of leadership and management skills in early years and the knowledge and skills relating to early years practice. This qualification is suitable for learners already working in the early years sector in a managerial role, as well as learners that may wish to develop their career or increase their understanding through professional development. This qualification aims to: support leadership and management skills in early years and the knowledge and skills relating to early years practice, offer breadth and depth of study, incorporating a key core of knowledge and provide opportunities to acquire a number of practical and technical skills.

Entry Requirements
Applicants must be 19+You must hold a relevant Level 3 qualification, as well as English at GCSE or Level 2 Equivalent. In line with Department for Education - from January 2024, a manager or a learner that starts in a manager role will also need to hold a suitable level 2 Maths qualification. If you do not hold a Maths GCSE or Level 2 equivalent, you will have the option to obtain Maths GCSE alongside the course.
Details of employment must be provided before enrolment - a DBS (police) disclosure is required for this course. A visit to your workplace will take place in the first 6 weeks of starting. Learners will need to be working in the role of leader, deputy or manager in an appropriate setting, or have the opportunity to carry out responsibilities associated with these roles to be able to study for the Level 5 Diploma for the Early Years Senior Practitioner. A minimum of 300 hours work placement is required.

Course Content
This qualification covers children between the ages of birth to seven years. During the course you will complete the following units:- Manage care routines for children
- Lead practice in promoting wellbeing and resilience in children
- Model positive behaviour in the early years
- Lead activities, experiences and educational opportunities to promote children's speech, language and communication
- Lead children's early education and development
- Understand holistic child development from birth to seven years
- Developing children's emergent literacy skills
- Developing children's emergent mathematical skills
- Develop and implement policies and procedures to support the safeguarding of children
- Develop health and safety risk management policies, procedures and practices in early years settings
- Champion equality, diversity and inclusion
- Supporting children with special educational needs and disability in an early years setting
- Work in partnership in early years settings
- Lead and manage a team within an early years setting
- Develop, maintain and use records and reports
- Quality provision in early years settings
- Promote professional development
- Review own knowledge of learning and development for early years practice

Additional Information
The programme commences in September and continues for two academic years. The course structure is a blended approach of in class directed teaching, online teaching and independent study. When required on site, the attendance will be 1-7pm, one day a week. The day is yet to be decided and applicants will be updated in due course. Course Structure
Learners will be assessed through internal task-based assignments that create a portfolio, with the awarding grades of Achieved/Not yet achieved. Additionally, learners will also be observed in their work placement to achieve skills-based criteria.
