Pottery - Introduction to Wheel Throwing

In this Introduction to Pottery - Wheel Throwing course, you'll experience the essential steps of wheel throwing, from preparing and wedging the clay, to guided demonstrations that cover each stage of the throwing process. Including centring and coning, to opening up and forming basic cylindrical shapes.

  • Entry Requirements


    There are no entry requirements for this course, but some experience with ceramics would be very beneficial.

  • Course Content


    With support and individual guidance, you'll develop your technique through practice, learning to create simple forms like cups or small vessels. We'll also cover essential finishing skills such as trimming and tidying your pieces, getting them for glazing and firing.

    Whether you're curious to try something new or looking to build confidence at the wheel, this course offers a focused, supportive environment to get started with throwing.

    Please note there are only 2 spaces available for this course. Students will benefit from 1-2 semi-private tutoring. This session will take place in our specialist 3D workshop alongside our Saturday Pottery Studio Session. Further courses to be released throughout the year.

  • Progression Next Steps


    You could progress onto one of our Pottery Studio Sessions to continue with your independent making, or try hand building in another of our weeknight ceramics courses.

    All materials and equipment are provided. Should you become more ambitious in the scale of your work we may ask for a contribution towards materials used.
