Access to Higher Education Diploma - Education and Teacher Training

All students are expected to have English Language GCSE grade-C/4 OR the equivalent (not functional skills level-2) before partaking on the course. If you do not have GCSE Maths at grade C/4 you may be given the opportunity to study this alongside your Access programme to achieve a grade 4 or above.

We will invite you to a Meet the Tutor event where you will receive information, advice, and guidance about the course you have applied for. This will be an opportunity for you to gain valuable information about the course and give you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have.

You will provide a copy of your last school report and/or a reference from an employer or relevant professional other to include attendance. This is to ensure we can support to be able to achieve well on the course. Applicants with 85% or below attendance will have been deemed not to have met this criteria. All applicants are given an opportunity to discuss any evidence based mitigating circumstances that may have affected the reference/school report.

Please note that it is the responsibility of the student to ensure their current and future qualifications comply with the entry requirements of any university to which they intend to progress. Please note that universities will require a C/4 in GCSE Maths and GCSE Science to gain entrance onto a Primary Education course. Additionally some universities require a minimum of 2 weeks' classroom experience prior to submitting a university application.

The majority of students on this diploma have gone on to study Teacher Training or a degree leading to Teacher Training.

One year, part time (September start), typically three days a week in college.

Study is spread over three days. Students will need to arrange a four week placement, at the beginning of the second term, (minimum 12 hours) outside of class time, in a school which reflects their professional interest. Students without recent experience of working in an educational environment may wish to apply for voluntary work in a school at the earliest opportunity. Recent experience in an educational setting will support your application to higher education on completion of the Access Diploma.

The Access to HE Diploma in Education and Teacher Training course is popular and applicants are advised to apply early. Please be aware that if you do not meet Home Student Residency status, you will be charged at the higher level fee. You may be eligible for help with fees and/or childcare, depending on your circumstances.

If you are age 19 or over you may qualify for a student loan that will pay for your tuition fees. This loan will not need to be repaid if you progress onto Higher Education and complete an eligible higher education qualification. Access to HE Diploma - Education and Teacher Training is taught at Kingston College so is ideal for those based in South West London and Surrey.

This course is not available to students who require a visa to study in the UK. Students who have qualifications from abroad and need a recognised English language qualification can take an IELTS test.
