A Level + Creative Business Studies Pathway (Digital, Animation & Games)
Are you interested in pursuing a career in the creative sector with a focus on entrepreneurship and enterprise? This exciting course brings together a range of practical digital design skills with an understanding of the world of business. Students will study a Level 3 BTEC in Digital, Animation & Games Design, together with an A Level in Business, making a four A Level equivalent course over two years. This course will encourage you to critically and practically engage with a broad range of digital design disciplines, including interactive, animation, video, digital art and games design. Within the College's specialist studios and workshops, students will develop their practical skills and expand their understanding of the world of digital arts and media through the study of others working in this field. For A Level Business, students will gain insight into the way businesses are run, from small scale start-ups to multinational organisations.
Creative thinking is necessary for business problem solving, and business intel is crucial for practising creatives - this course combines them both!

Entry Requirements
All A Levels require general criteria with a minimum of; 5 x GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including a grade 6 in Mathematics and English Language. -
Course Content
Delivered at the Creative Industries Centre, learners benefit from outstanding studio spaces and fully resourced digital labs. Industry standard Apple Mac computers provide professional design software including the Adobe Creative Cloud - Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign, After Effects, Premier Pro, Animate and XD. Learners also use Autodesk Maya for 3D work and have access to Unreal Game Engine for game development. Although the BTEC qualification is predominantly a digital course, learners also continue to develop their art and design skills through more traditional media including drawing and painting. It is continually assessed through practical coursework with no exams and is delivered through fun , interesting and practical projects that introduce learners to a range of different skills and areas including UXB design for HTML5 interactivity, wire framing and interface design for mobile and web based apps, 3D modelling and 2D and 3D animation, video filming and editing, film special effects and game design and game art. Group visits to exhibitions, including EGX the UK's largest Game convention are offered as part of the curriculum. Enrichment activities like this are important to give our learners a broader understanding of working in the creative industries.AS Level in Business: Students will gain an understanding of how businesses are structured, what makes a business successful, how managers and leadership control decision making and the impact these decisions have on market performance, operational and financial performance.
In year 2 students have the opportunity to complete the full Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma in Creative Media as well as the full A Level in Business.

Progression Next Steps
After successful completion of this course, the majority of learners progress to a range of specialist undergraduate courses at university, including games design, animation, graphics, as well as other subjects related to digital creative industries.
