A Level + Art & Design Practice with Psychology
This combined pathway brings together and Level 3 Extended Diploma in Art & Design practice and an A-Level in Psychology, allowing students to develop strong creative portfolios alongside a structured understanding of human behaviour, cognition and emotional development. The course is suitable for learners who wish to progress to creative degrees, and it may be particularly beneficial for those interested in future pathways where creativity and psychology intersect, including (but not limited to) careers such as art therapy.

Entry Requirements
Due to the academic and exam based nature of A level Psychology, entry requirements for this combined pathway are higher than for a standard vocational route. All A level pathways require a minimum of: 5 GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including Grade 6 in English Language and Mathematics Students must also demonstrate: Strong written and analytical skills The ability to manage independent study and revision Commitment to balancing practical coursework with exam preparation

Course Content
The Art & Design Practice explores a wide range of 2D and 3D disciplines, including Fine Art, Drawing, Painting, Mixed Media, Experimental Processes and Visual Communication. Students complete four substantial projects that build creative, technical and analytical skills.Psychology is studied as a linear, exam‑based A‑level, providing a rigorous academic grounding that complements creative practice by encouraging critical thinking, written analysis and independent research skills.

Course Structure
Art and Design Practice is split into four projects in your first year. Split over two units:Kew Fashion House focuses on fashion and surface pattern, culminating in a sculptural paper garment inspired by natural forms.
Letter Forms develops typography and illustration skills through a book jacket design project using both hand drawn and digital techniques.
Urban Structures explores architecture through model making, material experimentation and structural problem solving.
The Final Major Project is a self directed, specialist pathway resulting in a portfolio ready outcome, supported by tutorials and group critiques.
At AS Level Psychology, students study six compulsory topics: Social Influence, Memory, Attachment, Approaches in Psychology, Clinical Psychology and Mental Health, and Research Methods.
At A Level, students extend their learning through Biopsychology, Issues and Debates, Advanced Research Methods, and one optional topic such as Stress, Schizophrenia, Addiction or Forensic Psychology. Together, these studies develop understanding of human behaviour, emotional development, mental health, ethics and research, supporting progression into creative, academic and people‑focused careers.

Assessment Details
Art & Design Portfolio submissions take place at structured assessment points throughout the academic year.Psychology All assessments are written examinations taken at the end of each course stage.
AS qualification. Two written papers, each 1 hour 30 minutes, accounting for 100% A level qualification. Three written examinations, totalling 100% of the final grade.
