BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Travel and Tourism
Travel and Tourism covers a wide range of employment opportunities in one of the fastest growing and exciting industries in the world. It includes jobs in airlines and hotels, tour operators and travel agents, tourist attractions, conferences and events, hospitality and entertainment. Students gain an in depth knowledge of the industry covering a wide range of topics as well as developing critical, practical skills such as teamwork, customer service and communication, to support progression either into Higher Education or employment. Students will use a dedicated cabin crew facility in the college to undertake practical activities.
The tourism industry adds 5% to the worlds global emissions and it is important to ensure the negative economic, social and environmental impacts are limited. One way to do this is the use of immersive virtual reality to visit over crowded global attractions.

Entry Requirements
5 x GCSEs at grade 4 including English Language, or, a Level 2 in Travel & Tourism at Merit or above.We will invite you to a Meet the Tutor event where you will receive information, advice, and guidance about the course you have applied for. This will be an opportunity for you to gain valuable information about the course and give you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have.
You will provide a copy of your last school report and/or a reference from an employer or relevant professional other to include attendance. This is to ensure we can support to be able to achieve well on the course. Applicants with 85% or below attendance will have been deemed not to have met this criteria. All applicants are given an opportunity to discuss any evidence based mitigating circumstances that may have affected the reference/school report.

Course Content
In the first year you will study: the UK tourism industry, global destinations, Principles of marketing , and visitor attractions.In the second year, you will study managing the customer experience, travel and tourism enterprises, recruitment and selection, and you will complete an independent research project.

Progression Next Steps
You could join most of your fellow students in going to university to study Tourism Management or a related subject. Alternatively, you could apply for an Apprenticeship or seek employment in supervisory roles.There are lots of opportunities available to you to progress across the South Thames Colleges Group and into the world beyond education.

Additional Information
There will be compulsory field trips; you will need to pay approximately £400 to cover the cost of these visits. Course Structure
BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Travel & Tourism is a two-year course equivalent to 2 A levels.If you have already achieved a grade 4 in both GCSE English and Maths, you will also complete a further 1 A level or equivalent, which you will choose at enrolment. Current options include A-level Geography, BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in Hospitality & Events Management, and BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in Aviation Operations.
If you have a grade 3 or below in English and/or Maths, you will retake these GCSEs in the first year.
You will also complete a one-week placement within the Travel & Tourism industry.
