Access to Higher Education Diploma - Computing
Access qualifications provide an alternative route to University or Higher Education for students aged 19+. The Access to Higher Education Diploma in Computing is for students who have a keen interest in computing and a high level of commitment to studying this subject. One year's study provides students with an intensive introduction to the basic principles, concepts, and skills, both mathematical and computing, in a variety of areas of study including programming, hardware, web development, database development and networking. Progression to further study at Degree level is encouraged and is the normal expectation for students obtaining this award; alternatively students may progress onto the HNC in Computing offered by Kingston College.

Course Content
The course consists of modules designed to provide the basic mathematics and computing skills, plus study skills. Learners are also expected to complete an independent research project.The modules listed below are indicative of the course content:
Study Skills - Exam skills, note taking and note making, finding and reading information, word processing and writing and delivering seminar papers
Mathematics - Introduction to the mathematics required for computing including arithmetic skills, logic and sets
Systems Analysis and Programming - You will be designing and developing a range of procedural and visual programs.
Database and Website Development - You will design and develop a range of web pages and websites, you will also design and develop a complex relational database
Computer Systems and Networking - Introduction to computer architecture, computer operations and data communication.
To obtain a pass in this Access course, a student will have to achieve 60 credits at level 3. 45 Credits are graded and 15 credits are ungraded.
