A Level + Creative Business Studies Pathway (Media)

Are you interested in pursuing a career in the creative sector with a focus on entrepreneurship and enterprise? This exciting course brings together a range of practical creative media skills with an understanding of the world of business. Students will study a Level 3 BTEC in Creative Media and an A Level in Business, making a four A Level equivalent course over two years. Your media course will encourage you to critically and practically engage with a broad range of moving image disciplines. Within the College's specialist studios and workshops, students will develop their practical skills and expand their understanding of the world of media through the study of others working in this field. For A Level Business, students will gain insight into the way businesses are run, from small scale start-ups to multinational organisations.

Creative thinking is necessary for business problem solving, and business intel is crucial for practicing creatives - this course combines them both!

  • Entry Requirements


    All A Levels require general criteria with a minimum of; 5 x GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including a grade 6 in Mathematics and English Language.

  • Course Content


    Level 3 BTEC National Diploma in Creative Media Practice:

    In this first year you will develop a range of theoretical and practical media skills, from film making and the production of a single camera short film, TV studio multi camera work, animation, radio, graphic design, photography, journalism, marketing and social media. You will also learn critical employability skills such as how to write, plan, direct, produce, edit and promote your own film. The course is evidence based; students build up a portfolio of work over the year and submitted at key assessment points.

    AS Level in Business: Students will gain an understanding of how businesses are structured, what makes a business successful, how managers and leadership control decision making and the impact these decisions have on market performance, operational and financial performance.

    In year 2 students have the opportunity to complete the full Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma in Creative Media as well as the full A Level in Business., which is equivalent to four A Level qualifications.

  • Progression Next Steps


    After successful completion of this course, the majority of learners progress to a range of specialist undergraduate courses at university, including games design, animation, graphics, as well as other subjects related to digital creative industries. Digital creative industries is a growth area in terms of employment and the wider UK economy and offers a fantastic future for anyone interested in this subject.

  • Additional Information


    While some materials and equipment are provided, you will be expected to provide your own headphones, hard drive or USB stick and SD card, which are available to buy as a starter kit at enrolment.

    There will also be a number of trips and visits throughout the course which will incur some costs.
