Access to Higher Education Diploma - Music

The Access to HE Diploma - Music is designed for adults age 19+ who are aiming to progress onto undergraduate and higher level music courses. Day time study is approximately 10 hours a week delivered over two days.

Through a mixture of academic and practical assignments, you will experience the breadth of disciplines across the music industry, including music performance and music technology, delivered within the outstanding specialist music facilities at Kingston College, Creative Industries Centre.

The Level 3 Access to HE Diploma is a nationally recognised qualification regulated by the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA) which is designed to provide preparation for study in higher education (HE) in the UK for adults returning to education.

  • Entry Requirements


    We will invite you to a Meet the Tutor event where you will receive information, advice, and guidance about the course you have applied for. This will be an opportunity for you to gain valuable information about the course and give you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have.

    An audition or recorded example of a performance to demonstrate that you have the appropriate level of skill required to succeed on the course. We love to see your creativity!

    A satisfactory reference from an employer or relevant professional.

    It is advisable to have GCSEs in English and Mathematics at grade C/4 or above before undertaking an Access Diploma. If you do not have these qualifications, you will be given the opportunity to study them at Kingston College alongside the Access course.

    Please note that it is your responsibility to ensure your current and future qualifications comply with the entry requirements of any university to which you intend to progress.

    Students benefit from the outstanding resources of the Creative Industries Centre, including two professional recording studios, rehearsal rooms, digital studios and performance spaces. This course is delivered through a well planned curriculum of academic and practical assignments.

  • Progression Next Steps


    Learners will be able to progress onto a wide range of music and creative-related undergraduate (Higher Education) courses including those offered at the College and wider South Thames College's Group. Some may progress into employment in a related sector.

    Advanced Learning Loans: If you are aged 19 or over you may qualify for a student loan that will pay for your tuition fees. This loan will not need to be repaid if you progress onto Higher Education and complete an eligible higher education qualification. Prices quoted may be subject to change.
