There are a variety of apps available to you to make notes and keep yourself organised. Your choice may depend on the device that you have available to you at home.
Microsoft Word, OneNote, Microsoft Tasks (To Do), Office Lens.
Some of these apps are part of Office 365 and can be used after signing in with your college Office 365 account and college password.
These may not be displayed when you first go into Office 365. You may need to click the All Apps button to see them.
Making your notes in Microsoft Word
If you want a quick and easy way to make notes, use Microsoft Word. Word is part of Office 365, which you can install free of charge from the Office 365 home page. Put Word on your laptop, your home PC/Mac and your mobile devices (limit of 5 devices).
Sign in with your college Office 365 account (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) and your college password.
If installing on a mobile device, check that the app is the official Microsoft app. Look for the icon on the right.
Save your notes in your OneDrive. You will then be able to access your notes from Word, or OneDrive at home and at college, when you are on-site.
Some students like to create a folder just for notes, others like to add the notes to the relevant subject folder (eg 'Unit' 1 or 'Managing Money').
Make sure that your notes have a suitable name that will allow you to identify the contents just by looking at the filename. Calling a document 'notes from class' is fine now but in three weeks time you will have no idea what session they were from. A better name might be, for example, Unit 1 - Class Induction - 12 Sept 2020
Office 365 Tasks app
The Tasks app allows you to create a task list with a range of items, with deadlines and reminders. Once you have completed a task you can marked it as complete and keep a record of how long it took to complete. This can help in planning future tasks as you can go back and look at similar tasks and see how long they took.
OneNote
OneNote is a dedicated note-taking app available as part of your Office 365 account at STCG. You may have already used this at school or with a personal Microsoft account.
If your class is using Microsoft Teams then you will already have a OneNote notebook available.
If your class is not using Teams, or you want your own notebook then you can create a OneNote notebook yourself.
There is also a mobile app that you can install. Sign in with your college account and password. As usual, when installing, check that this is the official Microsoft app - look for the icon shown above.
