Green Skills: Gardening for Wellbeing

Discover the benefits of gardening and get started with growing your own in this 9-week practical course.

Whether you have an allotment, garden, balcony or even a windowsill, discover how to grow your own vegetables, herbs, fruit and flowers. Learn how to cultivate a range of crops from seed to harvest, and to troubleshoot common problems.

This will be a mostly practical course taking place outside, although we will be covering some theory in our classroom time as well as offering tips and advice.

  • Entry Requirements


    No experience required.

  • Course Content


    The course will cover:

    • sowing seeds

    • planting out

    • taking cuttings

    • creating wildlife habitats

    • creating wildflower areas

    • improving green spaces

    • learning about plant care

    • composting

    • how to reduce carbon footprint on a small scale
  • Progression Next Steps


    You can progress on to one of our classroom-based courses in Sustainable Gardening to further your skills and knowledge, or apply for one of the many volunteering opportunities available in the local area.

  • Additional Information


    All equipment will be provided. You may like to bring your own gardening gloves if you have them, but these will be available to borrow on site. This is a practical course which will largely take place outdoors (weather permitting), so please dress accordingly.

    There is a £10 charge payable on this course to cover all equipment and materials.
