English and Maths GCSE and Functional Skills
If you're 19 or over by 31st August 2024 and have a Functional Skills Level 2 qualification or skills at similar level, you can apply to join an English or Maths GCSE course starting in September 2024.
GCSE English and Maths qualifications are often required for those wanting to study on a university course.

We also offer Functional Skills courses in English and maths at all levels, day and evening times. These courses can help you develop your skills and build your confidence and gain a qualification at Entry Level, Level 1 or Level 2

Entry Requirements
Before you enrol, you'll have a short test with one of our tutors to help us decide if a GCSE course or a Functional Skills course is the right one for you.If you've already completed a functional skills course, please bring your certificates with you when you come in for your test.
If you don't have a formal qualification in English or maths then you can take this course for free as long as you get a good enough mark on your assessment.

Course Content
You will work towards the Edexcel Functional Skills and AQA GCSE English and maths qualifications. -
Progression Next Steps
Progression from Functional Skills L2 or Pre-GCSE courses can lead to GCSE.Within Functional Skills, you can progress from Entry Level to Level 1 and Level 2.

How to apply You'll need to take an assessment before you can enrol on the course so we can put you on the right level.Please note that these Merton assessments are for people aged 19 and over.

Course Structure
When and where can I study? You can study in the daytime or evening.All GCSE courses run one day or one evening a week for three hours.
Functional Skills courses run either twice a week in the day time for 2.5 hours each day or one evening a week for 3 hours.
Your tutor will discuss options when you come in to enrol.
What you'll pay If you don't have a formal qualification in English or maths GCSE at grade C (or grade 4), then you can take this course for free as long as you get a good enough mark on your assessment.
All Functional Skills courses in English and maths are free.

You will be assessed throughout the length of the course to help you and the tutor identify your progress before sitting an externally set and externally marked exam.
