    There are no entry requirements. The tutor will discuss previous knowledge with you to help you choose a suitable upholstery project.

  • Course Content


    Over 10 weeks, you'll understand upholstery processes and be taught techniques and valuable skills to complete a piece of upholstered furniture. You'll work on a personal project you've brought in, making each lesson directly applicable to your needs. Learners are encouraged to start with projects like a traditional dining chair, drop-in seats, occasional chairs, footstools, or piano stools perfect for mastering the foundational techniques of traditional or modern upholstery.

    Core Skills You'll Master: Furniture Stripping: Stripping your chosen piece to reveal how it was initially upholstered. This process provides invaluable insights into the structure and craftsmanship of upholstered furniture and will give you insight on how to rebuild and upholster it yourself. Upholstery Stages: You'll learn each upholstery stage, from laying the foundation with webbing and springs to adding stuffing for comfort and form and applying the fabric to transform your project into a unique creation.

    Please bring your chosen project (e.g., a chair, footstool, etc., ), a camera, and a notepad to record your work. Not essential but beneficial are your own scissors; communal tools are provided.
