Intro to L2 IT

The course will enable learners to:

  • Develop confidence using IT systems and digital tools
  • Understand key concepts in Information Technology
  • Build practical skills in Microsoft Office applications
  • Improve digital communication and online research skills
  • Gain awareness of cybersecurity and safe working practices
  • Prepare for progression into Level 2 IT qualifications
  • Entry Requirements


    You should have already completed a Level 1 IT qualification such as the L1 Essential Digital Skills Qualification or have an equivalent level of experience.

  • Course Content


    • IT Systems, File Management and Microsoft Word Learners will explore computer systems, hardware and software, cloud storage, file management, and professional document creation using Microsoft Word including formatting, layouts, tables, and templates.

    • Spreadsheets and Presentation Skills Sessions will focus on Microsoft Excel skills including formulas, formatting, charts, and data handling, followed by creating professional presentations using PowerPoint.

    • Digital Communication, Internet Research and Cybersecurity Topics will include effective online communication, email etiquette, internet research techniques, digital collaboration tools, data protection, password security, and cybersecurity awareness.

    • Employability Skills and Introduction to IT Careers Learners will complete a short practical project combining the skills developed throughout the course. Sessions will also explore employability skills, teamwork, problem-solving, and progression opportunities within the IT sector.
  • Progression Next Steps


    Progress onto other IT Courses within the South Thames Colleges Group, for example on to the L2 Award in Digital Skills (OCNLR) .
