L1 Award in Preparing to Work in Schools
This qualification prepares learners for further learning and training whilst developing an understanding of the teaching and learning environment in a school setting. It covers areas such as how to support the well-being of a child or young person, and children's development. This qualification is suitable for any learners who are thinking of working in a school setting.

Entry Requirements
You need a good level of spoken and written English. You will be invited to attend an advice and guidance session before starting this course where you will be asked to do a written assessment. You need to have a minimum of Entry 3 level English and writing skills sufficient to enable you to undertake the course.

Course Content
To achieve the Award the learner must complete 3 units. The units covered are:- Understand schools as organisations
- Understand how to keep children healthy, safe and well
- Understand how to communicate with children, young people and adults

Progression Next Steps
Your progression will be to a level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning. However please be aware that progression is not automatic and is dependent on your success at Level 1 and the outcome of your Interview and assessment for the next step.

Additional Information
You do not need to have a teaching placement for a level 1 course, but you will need to get a placement organised if you decide to progress to a level 2. -
Course Structure
This programme includes 2 qualifications which are linked:*Level 1, 'Award in Preparing to work in Schools' level 1 and 'NCFE Understanding Specific Learning Difficulties Level 2'
You need to complete both parts of the programme.

Assessment Details
Classroom assessment will take place throughout all sessions with tasks and activities and classwork to check your learning.
The summative assessment will be a completed portfolio of work which will be assessed by your teacher and verified by an external assessor.
