ESOL can help you improve your language skills if English is not your first language and you are living or planning to settle in the UK. The course is offered from Pre-Entry level (Beginners) to Level 2 (Advanced). The courses will help you improve your reading, writing, listening and speaking skills as well as develop your understanding of grammar and your employability skills.
ESOL courses at South Thames College offer you:
We run courses at Wandsworth Campus and Tooting Centre. Classes can be in the day time (mornings or afternoons) or evenings (two evenings per week). Tooting Centre also offers ESOL classes on Saturday (10.00 to 3.00).
ESOL courses cost £210 per term plus exam fee (£30).
Depending on your circumstances, your course could be free. Bring along your most recent benefits letter for our staff to assess you.
If you live in London and earn less than the London Living Wage your course could be free. To be fee assessed, you must bring your latest three payslips (if paid monthly), or your latest four (if paid weekly). If you are self-employed, you must bring your latest tax declaration forms.
Your skills will be assessed regularly. You will work towards ESOL Skills for Life qualifications (Reading, Writing and Speaking and Listening formal assessments) and depending on level, a Functional Skill ICT. You may attend a free maths class (optional).
This course requires a high level of commitment, so attendance to all classes is mandatory.
You must have a valid visa to cover the entire length of your course.
If you have studied ESOL before, please bring along any previous ESOL certificates you may have.
You will need to take an assessment with one of our tutors. This test will help us assess your skills and we will recommend the best course for your individual circumstances.
