16-18 ESOL (English for Speakers of other Languages)
The full-time ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) course is for students who are 16-18 years of age and have recently arrived in the UK. It is based in Wandsworth.
This intensive 15-hour per week course will develop your skills in reading, writing, listening and speaking English. As well as studying ESOL you will study maths and ICT. There are numerous Enrichment activities planned by our supportive ESOL specialist to help you reach your full potential.

Entry Requirements
We will invite you to a Meet the Tutor event where you will receive information, advice, and guidance about the course you have applied for. This will be an opportunity for you to gain valuable information about the course and give you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have.No formal qualifications are required for ESOL courses but you must meet the standards required for our courses. You will be assessed prior to entry to ensure you are placed on the correct course for you. However, if you have studied ESOL before, please bring along any previous ESOL certificates you may have.

Course Content
We run courses at entry 1, 2 and 3 at South Thames College.You will cover all the skills needs to improve your English and pass the exams. This includes reading, writing, speaking, listening, grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation. In addition you will cover topics relevant to young people living in London and the UK such as personal safety, sexual health, Prevent, the environment, culture and customs.
There will also be opportunities to go on outings with your fellow students.

Additional Information
ESOL courses for 16-18s are free.Although the course starts in September we do accept applications after this. Please apply at any time if you are interested and will will assess your English and discuss your options.
We run the 16 - 18 courses at the Wandsworth Centre not Tooting.

Course Structure
The 16-18 ESOL Study Programme runs through the academic year, typically attending college four days a week. Usually Monday to Thursday with work experience on some Fridays during the year. This will normally be between 10 and 20 hours in addition to your normal timetable. The course is divided into three term with exams in each term. -
Assessment Details
Your progress will be checked throughout the length of the course and your exams will be spread-out across all three Terms. You will take Ascentis ESOL exams in speaking and listening, reading and writing. In addition you will take an Functional Skills ICT or a Digital Skills qualification and a Functional Skills maths exams.
