The Level 3 Technical Occupational Entry in Social Care Diploma is designed for students who want to develop the knowledge, skills, and professional behaviours needed to begin a career in the health and social care sector. The course provides a strong foundation in understanding how to support individuals in a range of care settings, including residential care, community services and supported living environments.

Students will explore the principles of person-centred care, safeguarding and communication while developing an understanding of the responsibilities involved in working with vulnerable individuals. The course combines classroom learning with practical activities to help prepare students for employment or further study within the health and social care sector.

The Level 3 Technical Occupational Entry in Social Care Diploma is equivalent to 3 A levels.

  • Entry Requirements


    To enrol on this course, students will normally need:

    • 4 x GCSE's at grade 4 - 9 including English and maths or completion of Level 2 Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care plus GCSE English and maths at grade 4 - 9
    • You will also need to have a successful DBS check

    Students should demonstrate empathy, communication skills and a willingness to work with and support others.

    You may progress to Higher Education to study at degree level in a Health or Social Care related field such as Nursing, Social Work, Youth work, Sociology or Criminology. Alternatively, you could seek employment as a Health Care Support Worker and related caring roles or work in the social care sector, e.g. mental health work, social services, probation work, youth justice, elderly care services and more.

    The Level 3 Technical Occupational Entry in Social Care Diploma is an alternative to T Levels. The Technical Occupational Qualification (TOQ) are built around employer-led occupational standards, meaning it's shaped by what the care sector needs. With a significant number of UCAS points, it provides access to social work and adult nursing degrees, while also preparing you for direct entry into the health and social care workforce. (e.g. Distinction = 144, Distinction* = 168)

    Assessment is primarily coursework-based, allowing students to demonstrate their learning through a variety of methods rather than relying solely on exams.
