L1 Award in Health and Safety in a Construction Environment (CG) (to qualify for CSCS Green Card)

This Award in Health and Safety in a Construction Environment qualification is for learners wishing to apply for the Construction Skills Certification Scheme Green Card (CSCS Card).

This qualification is for learners wishing to qualify for the CSCS UK Ltd Green Card to access construction sites in the UK as a non-skilled worker.

NOTE: You must also Apply for course GLA CSCS Green Card- Labourer . You must Apply for both courses

The CSCS Green Card is intended for those working in labouring occupations only. CSCS introduced a requirement for applicants to achieve a formal knowledge based qualification, the Health and Safety in a Construction Environment' Award. Achievement of this award will demonstrate the applicant's understanding of key issues affecting safe working practices on UK construction sites.

  • Course Content


    The course contains five key areas of learning:

    • The principles of risk assessment for maintaining and improving health and safety at work
    • The importance of safe manual handling in the workplace
    • The importance of working safely at height in the workplace
    • The risks to health within a construction environment
    • The importance of working around plant and equipment safely

  • Course Structure


    After enrolling on the course, you will be given access to online study materials to help you prepare for your assessment.

    You will be booked onto the next available assessment day.

    On the day of your assessment, you will attend South Thames College (Wandsworth), and work to the following schedule:

    9.30am-11.30am: Level 1 Award in Health and Safety in a Construction Environment training. 12:15: Online assessment tests- CSCS and/or L1 Health and Safety

  • Assessment Details


    Candidates must successfully complete an online multiple choice test at South Thames College (Wandsworth).

    The pass mark is approximately 80%.

    The duration of the online assessment is 70 minutes.

    The assessment will contain:

    11 questions on 'The principles of risk assessment for maintaining and improving health and safety at work' 8 questions on 'The importance of safe manual handling in the workplace' 9 questions on 'The importance of working safely at height in the workplace' 12 questions on 'The risks to health within a construction environment' 5 questions on 'The importance of working around plant and equipment safely'

    Candidates will receive their result on the day they take the assessment.
